Enhancing Career Coaching at HGSE: A Strategic Initiative
This project proposes a strategic enhancement of career coaching services at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) by developing an infographic-based comprehensive training program for advisors. The objective is to refine each program advisor’s engagement techniques, enabling them to foster significant introspection among students and to guide the effective use of career development resources in an accessible and visually engaging format.
-
At the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE), the effectiveness of career coaching has emerged as a pivotal concern. Discussions with peers have revealed a significant gap in the depth of engagement between advisors and students concerning career aspirations. Advisors tend to cover only surface-level discussions on goals without facilitating the necessary introspection for identifying true passions and addressing potential career path blind spots.
-
This initiative aims to implement a structured training program for HGSE advisors, enhancing their ability to conduct meaningful dialogues that foster deep reflection and effective resource utilization. The primary target audience includes HGSE program advisors who interact closely with students, positioning them ideally to influence student career development significantly.
-
The proposal introduces a career coaching training infographic centered around the "GROW," "CONVU," and "Mind the Gap" models. This tool is designed to elevate the advisors' approach by encouraging a deeper exploration of students’ motivations and better guidance on navigating available resources. Enhanced coaching skills will lead to greater clarity and conviction among students regarding their career paths, ultimately fulfilling HGSE's commitment to supporting their personal and professional growth.
